Doug’s Solution: As a Naval Intelligence Officer and educator, Doug believes in discipline and oversight. He will push for an independent budget review, ensure every dollar is tracked, and eliminate wasteful spending. Doug will fight to make city finances transparent and understandable to every resident.
Lower Property Taxes & Utility Rates
The Problem: In 2024, property taxes went up by 12.55%—a massive increase that placed an even heavier burden on families already struggling with rising grocery, gas, and utility costs.
Doug’s Solution: Doug will oppose unnecessary tax hikes and fight to protect families from being priced out of their own city. He will work to prioritize smarter spending, cut waste, and bring fiscal responsibility to City Hall. Families deserve relief, not more taxes.
Supporting Public Safety
The Problem: First responders are often stretched thin while facing increasing demands. Without the right tools, training, and support, public safety—and the safety of Tavares residents—suffers.
Doug’s Solution: Doug will ensure our police, fire, and EMS have the resources, staffing, and mental health support they need. He has worked directly with first responders as a social work professional and has trained many on how to handle mental health challenges. He understands the pressures they face and will always back the men and women who keep Tavares safe.
Smart, Responsible Growth
The Problem: Tavares has been overdeveloped without proper infrastructure, leading to traffic congestion, strain on water and sewer systems, and neighborhoods that outgrow the services meant to support them.
Doug’s Solution: Doug will fight for a balanced approach to growth—infrastructure before development. Roads, water systems, and essential services must come first, before giving developers the green light. He will put citizens before special interests, ensuring growth enhances rather than harms Tavares.
Term Limits for City Council
The Problem: Local government works best when it has a healthy balance of experience and fresh ideas. Without limits, politics can become stagnant and discourage new community voices from stepping forward.
Doug’s Solution: Doug supports establishing reasonable term limits for City Council to ensure accountability and encourage more residents to participate in shaping the city’s future. This isn’t about individuals — it’s about building a stronger, more responsive system for Tavares.
